Barrie Concert Band

Organization Profile

The Barrie Concert Band has been an integral part of the amateur music scene in Barrie, Ontario since 1870 and is considered the oldest music organization in the City of Barrie. It is comprised of approximately 55 men and women from all walks of life, varying in age from the late teens to the mid 80's.

Over the years the band has fulfilled a year-round musical role in Barrie by participating in various city events, presenting regular summer and winter concerts and providing music at local senior's Homes and churches, averaging about 8 concerts per year. The musical selections include a wide variety of popular music, light classical, marches and seasonal favourites.

In addition to providing enjoyment for the members and the audience, the band's main objective has been to preserve and advance a love of instrumental concert band music. Free concerts are performed to give all members of the community the opportunity to enjoy this kind of music.

The band depends on its sponsors, honoraria from some of their concerts and donations from members of our audience. This money is used to purchase new music and cover ongoing maintenance costs.

The longevity of the Barrie concert Band is due to its faithful membership, the City of Barrie's financial support and the loyalty and support of its audiences.
