Nicola Russell

Individual Artist
Born in the United Kingdom, Nicola started her dance career at a very early age of 6. She studied a variety of dance styles at The Sussex School of Dance and at a high level passed her ISTD/RAD exams in Modern, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Greek, National and Disco. Nicola progressed to perform in local pantomimes each year and auditioned for local touring companies. She was given the opportunity to dance with the European Ballet and played ‘Ngana’ in the touring company of South Pacific. Nicola was honoured to be one of 20 people chosen to form the first East Sussex Youth Dance Company, 'HED:Strong' at the age of 15. Realizing that dance was a passion she wanted to pursue professionally Nicola studied Contemporary Dance at University of Chichester where she graduated with a high 2:1. After graduating she went on to become a qualified high school teacher in Dance. Now, in Canada, Nicola has been teaching dance and drama to numerous students within schools and local dance studios in Simcoe County. She is a founding company member of Simcoe Contemporary Dancers, in which she performs at various events across Simcoe County. She will be working for the City of Barrie as a Dance Instructor for the recreational programs in the New Year teaching children aged 2 up to adults. Nicola also works closely with Northern Stars Gymnastics to help choreograph competitive routines, which in the past have scored very highly in competitions across Canada and America.
