Nancy is primarily a self taught artist who believes, ‘My greatest education has been life. I try to paint the beauty in the world as I see it. I paint what I’m feeling in the moment whether it’s a story I‘m telling, an abstracted vision, or the beauty of the human form.’
Not content to stay with one style of art, this artist is always searching for the ultimate creative challenge.
Her painting styles range from realism in her portraits and nudes, through to the opposite end of the spectrum with her abstracts, and traditional Native art style.
Nancy likes to experiment using various media for her work. She likes painting in oil and acrylic, but she also enjoys creating collages and working with found objects.
Of Ojibwe, Mohawk, and Irish ancestry, Nancy is rediscovering her Native roots by rekindling the traditional teachings and legends of her father’s people.
To depict the old stories she uses the traditional Eastern Woodland Style of art, or black and white line drawings.
To portray her dreams and ideas in Native artistry she uses a lot of the beautiful vibrant colours associated with traditional Native art, but leans toward softer shades for her more contemporary pieces.
Nancy is well seasoned in all forms of traditional and contemporary artistic endeavors. Native crafts and adornments are also among her many accomplishments. As well, she creates contemporary jewelry using semiprecious stones and beads.
This artist is also a Graphic Designer and uses some of these skills to produce digital art from her own photography and is now experimenting with using the printer for various artistic ventures.
Presently she is learning web design to expand on her Desktop Publishing business.
This artist has done speaking engagements pertaining to her work on women’s issues which include physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
Her works can be found in private and corporate collections internationally.
Nancy currently resides in Barrie, Ontario and works out of a studio in her home as well as working with a group of artists in the Mnjikaning Art Studio at Rama, Ontario.
